Three-star linebacker Sire Gaines out of Perris, California announced his commitment to play for Arizona State football this evening. The California athlete chose ASU over a number of other power five schools. Those schools include Boise State, San Diego State, Washington State, and Arizona.
Arizona State football adds defensive prospect
Gaines is currently ranked as the 94th-best athlete in the class overall and the 69th-best athlete out of the state of California. Over the course of his career, Gaines had some eye-popping stats not only on the defensive side but also on the offensive side as well.
In the past two seasons, Gaines ran for 1365 yards, had 1577 receiving yards, and had a combined 39 touchdowns between those two positions. Also, in the last two seasons, he compiled 65 tackles, 9 tackles for loss, and five sacks; he was truly a two-way player.
Even though Gaines has shown he can play many different positions, he’s expected to play linebacker at Arizona State.
In an interview with Rivals Greg Biggins, Gaines talked about his visit back in June. “Tempe is a great city and a place I can easily see myself at for the next 4-5 years. It’s great weather, with great support for the University and I loved the overall vibe on campus” Gaines said. You can visit the rest of that article here.
ASU remains fourth in the PAC 12 in the class of 2024 rankings according to 247sports. The Sun Devils clock in at 42nd overall nationally. Gaines is the 17th official commitment in the 2024 class for Arizona State.
