TEMPE, Ariz. — After Colorado’s 27-24 victory over Arizona State on Saturday, quarterback Shedeur Sanders ran directly toward the Arizona State student section. The junior quarterback showed off his (likely) expensive watch with a grin toward the loud and angry Sun Devil students. Here’s the video, via Yahoo Sports.

Shedeur Sanders taunts Arizona State student section

Minutes before Sanders’ celebration in front of the Arizona State students, the Colorado quarterback marched the Buffaloes down the field for a game-winning drive.

The biggest play of the drive, and the game, was a 43-yard pass to Javon Antonio. The duo took advantage of a busted coverage by the Arizona State defense. The chunk play immediately put Colorado into field goal range.

Kicker Alejandro Mata drilled a 43-yarder with just 12 seconds left. Ballgame.

“It’s like we’re waiting on him to put on his cape and do what he does,” said Colorado coach Deion Sanders, Shedeur’s father. “That’s what he does every week.”

Arizona State’s defense holds Sanders in check

Despite the busted coverage resulting in Colorado’s game-winning drive, the Arizona State defense held Sanders in check. They held the Heisman contender to 239 yards on 26-of-42 passing. If not for the busted coverage resulting in a 43-yard chunk gain, Sanders may not have broken the 200-yard mark.

That’s over 100 yards under Sanders’ average of 356 yards per game, which is good for second in the country. Only Oregon has held Sanders to fewer passing yards this season.

The Devils also did a good job of pressuring Sanders. ASU was able to sack the quarterback five times on Saturday. However, the elite performance by the defense overall on Saturday will always be overshadowed by the final drive for Colorado.

Despite a slow night, for his standards, Sanders said he was confident going into the final drive.

“I just looked down the sideline,” Sanders said. “…just seeing everybody’s body language — the coaches and everybody — they knew what time it was.”
