Arizona State basketball (7-5) heads to Berkeley to face California (4-8) in its second conference game of the season. ASU will look to build on its exciting second-half comeback win over Stanford, 76-73, to open Pac-12 play.

California is coming off a loss to #4 Arizona in its first conference game. The Bears have had a subpar start to the season, but are 4-3 at home.

The Sun Devils are 1-1 in true road games. They lost a heartbreaker to San Diego, then beat Stanford Friday.

ASU is 22-20 against California all-time. Although, the Sun Devils have won nine of the last 10 matchups with the Bears. ASU is 5-1 in its last six games in Berkeley.

With a win tonight, ASU would start 2-0 in conference play. The Sun Devils haven’t started 2-0 on the road in conference play since 1992.

With that being said, here are our Sun Devil Daily staff predictions.

Arizona State basketball predictions against California

ASU: 78 California: 72

ASU has all the momentum on its side after a huge comeback win on the road against Stanford. The team figured out some shooting and some great defense in that game and I believe that this will carry over to the game against Cal. ASU and Cal are a fairly even matchup to begin with but ASU is a slight dog due to playing on the road. I think ASU will end the year strong. – Cooper Burns (7-3)

ASU: 75 California: 72

Very close game. ASU wants and needs to build momentum off of its previous win against Stanford if it wants to climb the rankings in the Pac-12. Like Stanford’s defense, Cal is allowing their opponents on average to score nearly 78 points per game. ASU has the chance to get back on track tonight. – Truitt Robinson (2-2)

ASU: 71 California: 73

The Sun Devils experienced late-game heroics in their win over the Cardinal, but cannot put themselves in a similar position and expect to win against Cal. ASU will need to shoot better than 46% in the game if they are going to upset Cal. Despite the outcome of the game, I think ASU will play a very competitive 40 minutes and will just come up short as they close 2023 with a loss. – Anthony D’Amato (6-4)

ASU: 80 California: 72

ASU is coming off a thrilling comeback win to open Pac-12 play, and I think they bring that energy into tonight. The Sun Devils have been extremely inconsistent this season, but I think they can take advantage of a struggling Cal team tonight. I think the Sun Devils put up their third 80-point game of the season and start Pac-12 play 2-0 for the first time in more than 20 years. – Douglas Santo (7-3)
