TEMPE, Ariz. —  “Bro ripped his pants, that was the funniest thing ever,” Arizona State football star Jalin Conyers said. Conyers was describing his first time meeting new head coach Kenny Dillingham. It certainly went on to be a memorable experience.

Jalin Conyers and Jordan Clark recount meeting Dillingham

“He came in right away, and kind of started yelling,” Conyers said. “We were kinda caught off guard.” After Kenny Dillingham’s boisterous entrance, he then proceeded to kick his shoes off and spoke about how his wife dressed him.

Once he got on the topic, the story familiarizes to the Kenny Dillingham whom the Arizona State community has come to know and love.

“He just got into telling us about how passionate he was about being here and wanting to get with us and get ready to go,” Conyers said.

Dillingham’s enthusiasm and pride towards Arizona State and the Valley have been one of the trademarks of his short tenure. He’s quickly adopted the “Activate the Valley” slogan, and it sounds like he keeps that same energy around the team as well.

“It was definitely a super-like moment that I won’t forget, but now looking back at it, it’s just him being passionate. Being who he is,” Conyers continued.

Being who he is.

Fellow Arizona State football player Jordan Clark had a similar memory of the moment.

“It was our first encounter with him,” Clark said. “And you learned how genuine he was. How much he really loves Arizona State. How much he really loves Tempe. It’s genuine. It’s real, the passion that he has for it. And for me, that’s all you can ask for in a head coach.”

It’s hard to judge before any action on the field, but looks like Arizona State football got a good one.
