TEMPE, Ariz. — The college football landscape has undergone many changes over the last few years. These stretch from the addition of NIL to the popularization of the transfer portal, conference realignment, and even down to the most legendary active coach retiring.

A new change next season will be the expansion of the College Football Playoffs. The CFP has been a four-team affair since its inception in 2014. Now 10 years later, it will include 12 teams. A change many are excited for, especially given last season was the first time a Power 5 team went undefeated, but was left out (Florida State).

The selection process is always an intense debate and left up to 13 individuals, the CFP Committee. This committee is constantly changing and is full of ADs, former coaches, players, etc. Next season a Sun Devil great will be one of those 13 important members.

Former Sun Devil standout will be on College Football Playoff Committee

Randall McDaniel is a former Arizona State offensive lineman. Today he was announced as one of the new members of the CFP Committee, which will be led by Michigan AD Warde Manuel.

McDaniel began his tenure in Tempe as a tight end but was shortly converted to an offensive lineman in his first season. McDaniel played for ASU from 1984-1987, but his breakout season was in 1986. Arizona State went 10-1-1 and beat Michigan in the Rose Bowl while McDaniel earned First Team Pac-10 honors. He also was named an honorable mention All American.

In 1987 McDaniel was named a consensus All-American, just the 11th in school history. He also won the Morris Trophy, crowning him as the best lineman in the Pac-10.

McDaniel was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2008.
